Specialisation, Diversity and Geographical Diffusion of Knowledge

چکیده

The paper seeks to develop our understanding of the somewhat diffuse nature of technological externalities in technological space by associating a geographical dimension with the sectoral dimension. Using panel data this paper estimates a knowledge production function that allows for spillovers inside the same industry and outside, and for local as well as global geographical spillovers. This allows to test wether inter-sectoral externalities would be more favoured by geographical proximity, while intra-sectoral externalities would be produced more easily at a distance. The results confirm this hypothesis for the French case, since Jacobs externalities decrease more drastically with distance than MAR externalities. A few keywords: Geographic spillovers, MAR externalities, Jacobs externalities JEL code(s): 031, R12

Looking for Genetic Diversity in Iranian Apple Cultivars (Malus × domestica Borkh.)

The cultivated apple (Malus domestica) is one of the most important fruit crops cultivated in different regions of the world including Iran. For production and breeding of high quality apple, the knowledge of genetic diversity of the cultivated apples  is  necessary. Therefore we studied genetic diversity of 25 genotypes by using ISSR molecular markers. In present study, ten ISSR primers produc...

Growth and evolution of the Danish IT sector: Geographical concentration, specialisation, and diversity

This paper analyses the growth and spatial evolution of the Danish IT sector during the upswing in the 1990s. The IT sector employment and the number of firms have more than doubled during a decade, but the evolution indicate a ‘non random’ clustering of the industry around the larger urban areas. The paper focuses on dominant forces in shaping the growth and spatial evolution of the industry a...

Cultural Diversity, Geographical Isolation, and the Origin of the Wealth of Nations This research argues that variations in the interplay between cultural assimilation and cultural diffusion have played a significant role in giving rise to differential patterns of economic development across the globe. Societies that were geographically less vulnerable to cultural diffusion benefited from enhan...

Assessment of the genetic diversity among potato cultivars from different geographical areas using the genomic and EST microsatellites

Background: Potato has a narrow genetic base which is due to its development, as it takes its genetic root from a few genotypes originated from South America. Objectives: The objective of this study was to assess the genetic relationships among potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) genotypes originated from different geographical regions.Materials and Methods: This study has rendered 25 use...
